Alvin Features: Gas Cooker

One of the things we were looking for in a van when we were searching, was a cooker that enabled us to cook outside. The cooker on the Trakka is located on a swing out unit, enabling you to stand outside and cook. It also stops the cooking smells from getting into the van.

When we bought the van, it had a cooker fueled by a 2 kg gas bottle. On our trial runs we found that this did not last very long. So we replaced it with the original Metho Cooker that had been taken out of it.

The Metho cooker has been great. Metholated Spirits is easily available in supermarkets. We go through about a litre a week, so that works out to less than $1 a day for cooking fuel. Without a pressurised gas bottle in the van, we also feel a lot safer.
