Yulara: Kata Tjuta

May 31st, 2008

Clare at OlgasThe rock was closed today due to high winds at the top, so we decided to take the 50 km drive out to the Olgas (now known as Kata Tjuta), another rock formation in the same National Park as Uluru.

We took the 3 hr 'Valley of the Winds' walk which channelled us through the centre of the great towering domed rocks, to view the spectacular vertical rock faces.

We drove back to 'The Rock' to check again if it was open for climbing - but still no go due to the high winds. Instead we Visited the cultural centre nearby to learn a bit more about the aboriginal heritage of this area. We had another look at Uluru at sunset, joining quite a few others on a sand dune behind the campground.
