Robe: Salty Swim

January 20th, 2009 : robe-salty-swim

Siolam LakeWe headed from Mt Gambier straight to Millicent in the morning. Clare took Olive to a ‘mega’ playground, while Rob did some mandatory shopping. A little north of here we detoured to Carunda National Park, near Southend, and went on a spectacular 1 hour walk to the Buffon? Headland with amazing cliff edge seaviews. Next was the lovely village of Beachport for lunch. We found a picnic spot next to Siloam Lake, a small waterhole right behind the coastal sand dunes. After a feed we went for a swim and a float in the salty water, which is 7 times saltier than the ocean. Heading further north along the coast we arrived in Robe, and decided to stay at the Sea-Vu – which has great ‘sea views’ from our grassy spot on the cliff. Again the unpowered site was the pick of the bunch.
