Shell Beach Campground, Innes National Park: Black Sand

January 31st, 2009

Dirty OliveThe day started with a visit from the ranger, notifying us that it was a total fire ban day today and that the forecast was 43 degrees!

This campsite would have been OK except for the black coloured sand. A mother’s nightmare, but Olive’s delight as she rolled around in it and then climbed all over everyone! We washed it off her, and us intermittently with swims in the ocean.

Although we have little to do here, it’s a tiring day due to the heat. Rob put Olive in the backpack and took her for a walk across the nearby dry salt lake. She was asleep within minutes, which was the intention. Each day it is a challenge to get her daytime sleep – either in the car seat, the backpack or pram – rarely in her own bed! Sharon cooked her specialty spag bol meal and we all had an early night.
