[ more Top-10 Lists ]

When travelling around Australia, the places you chose to stay at can have ab ig impact on how well you enjoy a place. We have travelled around a lot and experienced many caravan parks, and have a good idea of what makes a good one. From our travels, we have compiled this list is our own personal top-ten favourite caravan parks of Australia. Many of these are from our 2008 around Australia trip, though now that we have our Jayco Hawk, we will be visiting more and will be updating as we find great ones to add.

[updated 2021 with the Porongurup Range Tourist Park]

1. Eungella Mountain Edge Escape, QLD

Eungella, Queensland, Australia
Magnificent views over Eungella National Park

Who could beat waking up to this view every morning when camping on the edge at the Eungella Mountain Edge Escape. If you are lucky or book well ahead you can get the prime position on the edge looking straight down the valley. The nearby Eungella National Park has great viewing of platypus if you are the patient type.

2. Paronella Park, QLD

Mena Creek Falls at Paronella Park

You can get a free night’s accommodation with every entry to Paronella Park. It is worth it just for the fantastic private picnic spot amongst the ruins.

3. Porongurup Range Tourist Park, WA

We stayed at the Porongurup Range Tourist Park when in Porongurup, in Western Australia

4. Streaky Bay Foreshore Caravan Park, SA

Streaky Bay, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia

It is a long way to get to the Eyre Peninsula and Streaky Bay from Adelaide, but when you get there you may want to stay forever. The caravan park is perfectly located on the beach, and the unpowered site are the best.

5. Mount Beauty Caravan Park, VIC

Mt Beauty, VIC
What a beauty!

As the name suggests, there are some beautiful spots to set up camp around the town of Mt Beauty in Victoria.

6. Trial Bay Gaol Campground, Arakoon National Park, NSW

Trial Bay Gaol, NSW, Australia

Camp at the beach in the shadows of the ruins. We were lucky to wake early and see some whales pass meters by the shore.

7. Fonty’s Pool Caravan Park and Chalets, Manjimup, WA

The Fonty’s Pool caravan park, near Manjimup, WA. See our write-up about Fonty’s Pool is Cool.

8. Monkey Mia Resort, WA

A big caravan park, but new with all the facilities you need, and at an amazing location.

9. West End Caravan Park, Kangaroo Island, SA

Kangaroo Island

West End Caravan Park has wildlife galore. When we visited, the National Park camping was not available, though when it is open, this may still be the best camping option at the west end of the island.

10. Horseshoe Bay Resort and Caravan Park, Bowen, QLD

Bowen Sunset Drinks
Cheers to that!

Horseshoe Bay Resort and Caravan Park, is situated at the tip of Cape Edgecumbe. Little Horseshoe Bay is a hidden gem along the Queensland coast – easily the best place to stay if you are in Bowen.
