Gundagai: No Dog on a Tuckerbox

December 3rd, 2008

Olive and a pigWe returned to visit the township of Kangaroo Valley, a few minutes frmo our campsite. Once again we were too early and many shops were closed. We walked up and down the main street; the highlight was Clare getting some clothing bargains at a store that was closing down.

We drove up and out of the valley to Fitzroy Falls, taking turns to view the falls lookout while Olive slept peacefully in the car. Further along was the historic town of Berrima. We took a stroll around the lovely town, which had some quality galleries and cafes, though most of the other shops unfortunately were aimed at the grandparent age group – no offence grandparents!

From here we jumped on the Hume Hwy and drove and drove and drove, more than we have done for a long while. Olive is certainly not used to the long drives as there were a few complaints from the back. We had no time to stop and pay respects to the dog on the tuckerbox, but a short time later stopped for the night at the town of Gundagai, at a nice and quiet (and cheap) caravan park next to the river.
