Mt Ebenezer Station: Rim Walking

June 3rd, 2008

Kings CanyonAnother 30km down the road from our campsite at Kings Creek Station is Kings Canyon, often overlooked by tourists to this region.

Here we did the rim walk, a 4 hour hike up and along the edge of this spectacular canyon. The hike took us through the 'Garden of Eden', a surprisingly lush valley and waterhole. Again Olive was carried all the way, and managed to stay awake for most of it.

We got close to some of the edges which were beyond vertical in places, with some spectacular views across and along the gorge. The weather has been great for hiking - sunny in the low twenties with a cool breeze. You wouldn't want to be here in the peak of summer. The peak tourist season apparently is August and September.

In the afternoon we drove half way back to Alice Springs, staying for free in the dust out the back of the hotel at Mt Ebenezer Station. The people were friendly, the sunset amazing and the night sky chokka block full of stars.
