We drove the hour or so into Adelaide to pick up Clare’s sister Sharon, who has come across from Perth to travel with us for a couple of weeks. From there we had to detour around the final stage course of the Tour Down Under, to head north of Adelaide. We stopped at Gawler for lunch at a grassy park, then drove through the town of Freeling, know as the home of McLeod’s Daughters. We continued for another hour to Burra, an old copper mining town, steeped in history. We had time for a quick look around; the art gallery, an old church, an apple cider farm (tried apple beer) and a lookout over the old mine site. It was a very quiet afternoon, being a Sunday of a long weekend. We are staying at a pleasant caravan park by the creek.
