Today was a day for exploring around the small pioneer town of Swan Hill. Being a small town, there is not really much here.
Fortunately though it is the third Sunday of the month, so the local market was open. There is also a giant Murray Cod here, and a massive Morton Bay fig tree which was planted by Burke and Wills.
In the afternoon we visited the must see site of Swan Hill, the Pioneer Museum, which is a recreated old township like Sovereign Hill but is the oldest of the type and was very interesting. It is fairly quiet here despite being a weekend, possibly due to the cold weather, which makes us wonder why we are here too! Either it is not reaching the forecast five degrees overnight, or we are just well prepared for the cold night and are getting well rugged up.
At the caravan park we met a guy solo canoeing down the Murray. It is a monumental effort, and the weather has not been kind to him lately. After each day’s leg, he has to ride his bike back to pick up his car, then drop his bike off at his next day’s destination. He then has his bike ready to do the same the next day. It took us a while to get our heads around that.
