Malaysian Food Diary: 22 July 2010

This is the start of our Malaysian Food Blog. We spent nearly 18 days here, in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, and for every meal Clare made extensive notes while Rob took photos of the meals, which has formed this food diary.

The Malaysian food experience did not get off to a good start with the first meal of the trip, a very average meal we had pre-booked on the AIr Asia flight. Well it was not actually in Malaysia, so it did not count. The next meal was not so crash hot either. We tried for a quick meal at the fast food restaurant at the Airport, but the service was very slow. We had some interesting food though.

The owners of the place we are staying at gave us lots of advice, and even got their assistant Anita to take us up along the nearby Jalan Alor.

She took us to a recommended restaurant, and she even helped us with our order. It would not have been very hard really, the menu was full of pictures and the dishes were written in English too. Here we had one of our favourite experiences from Malaysia, eating stingray. We were not aware that people ate it anywhere, but after trying this we don't know why it is not more popular.


We also had to try Malaysian satay. This was a hit with the kids.

After our banquet, we bought some fruit from a fruit stand, and some other supplies from a convenience store, including these rambutans and blood dragon fruit.
