I woke tired and a little hungover after the big final fling last night. I had a free day to explore more of Kathmandu. I had explored the city area of Kathmandu when I first arrived here. Today I planned to explore a little further afield in the area surrounding the city.
Instead of paying $45 for a tour, I went on Rob’s DIY tour of Kathmandu and surrounds covering the same sites, though using taxis for each leg of the journey. The total cost for me was $15, the only negative was that I had to guide myself (lucky I am such a good guide!).

It was a slow, bumpy and dusty taxi to Bouda Stupa. It was quiet being away from the crowds of Kathmandu city. There were locals going about their business, and Tibetian monks roaming the stupa area. I found a coffee shop overlooking the square, to sit back and enjoy the ambience.

From there I took a taxi to Patan Durbar Square. Here are old temples like in Baraktpur (from my first day in Nepal). I had lunch at a cafe high up overlooking the old square. It was nice to have some time to myself and not feel rushed. As I was leaving, I bumped into some of the Habitat for Humanity crew, CC and Marina, who were doing a similar tour around the city.

The taxi took me back to Thamel, for my last night in town. I’m ready to go back to Perth after being away from the family for nearly two weeks.
