American River, Kangaroo Island: Struggle Town to Million Dollar Views

Ferry to Kangaroo IslandWe drove on more dirt road further into the Deep Creek Conservation Reserve to take a hike. We have promised ourselves no more dirt roads (and not for the first time though!) – as it shakes everything loose in the van, and covers the bikes in dirt.  But sometimes it is worth it! We hiked to deep creek cove, about 3km away. It got much hotter than we expected, and it was uphill on the way back, plus our supply of water ran out – in the end it was a bit of a struggle. Clare didn’t cope well at all. It was too far to go back to Victor Harbor for supplies, so we changed plans and drove directly to Cape Jervis, where the ferry to Kangaroo Island leaves. We had a few hours before departure, so we enjoyed lunch by the water front while waiting. We arrived on Kangaroo Island about 4pm, and drove directly to Rob’s cousin’s house in the small community of American River. There are million dollar views from her house on the side of a hill overlooking the bay.
