Elliston: Specky Views and More Friends

March 6th, 2009 : elliston-specky-views-and-more-friends

Locks Well LookoutWe woke to a serenely peaceful location. We enjoyed a tranquil breakfast on a bench by the water’s edge. We drove back through Coffin Bay and then up along the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. We stopped at a lookout at Kiana Beach which had awesome cliff top views, reminiscent of the Great Australian Bight, which we will be seeing again soon. From here we drove past some interesting dry rock walls, and then stopped at Locks Well for a picnic lunch. We sat and had lunch on a decking situated on top of the cliffs, the most spectacular lunch spot we have had by far. After eating we walked down the 285 steps to the beach, where we watched the fishermen and Olive had a play in the sand. It was a bit cold to swim, and there was advice that it is a treacherous spot anyway. We then drove on a little distance to Elliston, a nice little town, with a grassy campsite next to the beach. There is a little girl camping next door who has been looking for a friend to play with all week, and Olive was just the girl for it. In fact it was rather difficult to drag them apart when needed – for dinner, showers and bedtime! A few tears were shed, but they will play again in the morning, and we may even see them again further up the coast.
