Henley Beach, Adelaide: Goodbye Sharon

February 7th, 2009 : henley-beach-adelaide-goodbye-sharon

Reilly GirlsWe packed up in Hahndorf, the last time for Sharon. We drove to Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens, but it was not yet open. After a coffee break, we returned to find it closed for the day due to the high fire risk. It was probably a good idea, as it was going to be another stinker. We drove down the hill into Adelaide, and headed to the coolest place we could think of – a shopping centre. After some shopping and lunch, we headed into the city and another cool spot – the art gallery and museum. Both were very good, and it was not just Olive who liked the stuffed mammal collection at the museum. We did a drive by of the seaside suburb of Glenelg before dropping Sharon off at the airport. There were no teary goodbyes. Olive had just adored having Sharon here with us, but maybe she is getting used to loved ones coming and going. Anyway, she had an adventure waiting for her. A short distance away was our friends from Darwin days, Greg and Kristy, and their twin boys, aged 4. Their backyard is an adventure playground, plus heaps of new toys for Olive to play with. It is going to be hard for her to leave here. Since the house is only a couple of blocks from the beach, we headed down to cool off. However, strong winds had caused a drop in the temperature which made it less appealing. The water was beautiful though. We stayed up very late catching up with our friends who we have not seen for nearly five years. Olive was also keen to stay up late because we couldn’t drag her away from the toys.
