Port Elliot: Another Goodbye

February 12th, 2009 : port-elliot-another-goodbye

Granite Island HorseWe said goodbye to our hospitable friends, the Campbells to continue the next leg of our journey. Olive was particularly sad to say goodbye to her ‘boys’, the twins that she befriended or that befriended her, during the stay. We headed south into the Fleurieu Peninsula driving through the disappointing Old Noarlunga. At Willunga we checked out a couple of galleries, then drove up the long winding hill that the cyclists of the Tour Down Under had to endure. It was a surprisingly short distance to Victor Harbor on the south coast. For the first time it was too cold and windy for us to eat our picnic lunch in the park – we retreated to the van to prepare and eat our food. We walked across the bridge, avoiding the touristy horse drawn wagon, out to Granite Island, and ventured along the scenic track around the island. We are staying at Port Elliot, a short distance along the coast, as we’ve been told that the caravan park here is better. So far it has not impressed us, plus the wind hasn’t stopped, which is also not helping.
