Shell Beach Campground, Innes National Park: Tip of the Boot

Best FriendsWe left late as we had a few chores to do and Sharon did the finishing touches to her assignment. We drove further south on the Yorke Peninsula to Edithburgh, where we stopped at the clifftop for an iced-coffee and a swim in the elaborate seawater pool. Just south of town is a huge wind farm, which we drove into the midst of the towering giants. From here we headed to Innes National Park, at the tip of the Yorke Peninsula and the highlight of the region. We stopped en route at Waroona for a picnic lunch in a quiet park in the centre of town. We continued on, and reached Innes at around 3pm. We checked a few possible campsites and were not impressed; they all seemed too hot, dry and dusty. Saw the wreck of the ‘Ethel’ on a beautiful beach with cranking waves. To reach the recommended campsite we had to endure a bumpy ride for 6km along a corrugated dirt road. It was the best campsite of the lot, though the dirty sand and the long walk to the beach were not ideal. The beach is lovely and will be well used as it is hot and there is no shower here.
