Day 2: Friday, 29th June

Breakfast of toast and eggs (and plenty of butter) is provided daily. While we eat, the staff change the beds, and sweep and mop the floors. The kids have been particularly looking forward to visiting the Monkey Forest, so it is our first destination in Ubud. It was a long walk from our villa (they better get used to it). Except for being bitten, the monkeys were very adorable. There were lots of baby monkeys, and a couple climbed onto us for a photo. Clare left early to feed Casper, and while sitting outside under a tree was attacked by a monkey and bitten on the elbow while she moved to protect Casper. Thankfully the monkey was scared off by a couple of locals who were sitting nearby. They gave her some first aid, and then she went to the official first aid post set up to handle the many monkey bites and scratches each day. He was very reassuring that none of these moneys have rabies, but they possibly do carry a few other diseases.

After Clare had been fixed up, we walked along Monkey Forest Road to Cafe Wayan, which had been recommended to us. It was an oasis off the busy main street with lovely food and lovely people. It was pretty quiet, and the staff spent lots of time playing with the kids. From there we caught a taxi back to the villa instead any more walking in the heat. The kids had done so well walking all the way so far. Back for a swim and relax for all except Rob, who took Casper in the pram for the long walk to the Delta Supermarket for supplies. For dinner we took a short walk down the lane to the Chill Out Lounge. Our street is quite narrow so we have to keep stopping to let the cars and motorbikes pass us. We also have to watch out for the dogs and potholes. There are also lots of interesting things to see just outside our doorway, Bali life in the street. There are always people out front of their houses with a smile as we pass.
