Day 3: Monday, 12th May

It was a tough sweaty night as the air conditioner stopped working about midnight and we had to swelter through the rest of the night. We needed some cash, but we were waiting for one bank card to be topped up, and the other had been blocked due to possible fraudulent activity. After a couple of Skype calls back to Australia the blocked card was sorted out.

Our preferred breakfast joint next door was late opening again, which was fortunate as it let us discover another Indian restaurant with a very friendly owner. We'll be going back there.

Rob was dropped off at the Indonesian embassy to submit visa applications for our return to Bali, while Clare and the kids continued on to the botanic gardens. Their first stop to the orchid garden was so engaging that they nearly forgot their rendezvous with Rob. There were many paths and amazing flower displays it was easy to get lost.

The next stop was Symphony Lake with heaps of turtles to feed, and surprisingly a monitor lizard casually swimming by. It was hard to keep the kids moving, an ice cream at the kids garden was the carrot to lead them on. We took a bit of a detour to find the canopy food court, but it was really worth it. A great regional selection of cuisines in a new and clean establishment.

Singapore Flyers

It was another long walk for the kids to the children's garden, the main attraction for the kids today. You can imagine our disappointment to find it closed, as it is every Monday! Thinking quickly we decided to catch a taxi to the Jurong east swimming complex. 15 minutes later we found that it was also closed on Mondays. Aaaaagh! We needed something big to satisfy the kids who were getting tired and restless in the back of the cab. (Lucky cabs are relatively cheap here) We pulled out the trump card, the Singapore flyer, the largest Ferris wheel in the world.

It cost us $100 but it needed to be done to make the day a success. We don't think the kids even remember the disappointment of the children's garden now. Back at the hotel they crashed out early, and Clare took advantage of that and headed out to do some of the shopping that Singapore is famous for.
