Alice Springs: Sonny Days

June 4th, 2008 : alice-springs-sonny-days

Drinking Telegraph StationWe woke to a beautiful sunrise but no sign of the resident camel we saw around here last night. We made it to Alice Springs for lunch, which we ate on Anzac Hill with views overlooking the town. As usual, we gathered all the info we could from the Tourist Information Centre. They gave us directions to find Sonny Mason's (Rob's Mum's cousin) gem shop in town, so we headed there and introduced ourselves. “Never heard of her” was the initial response - typical Mason sense of humour!!Then we went out to the Old Telegraph Station for an afternoon drink. We tried calling Uncle Micky to see if we could crash in his driveway tonight, but we could not get hold of him until late in the day. He has visitors this week so we had to find a caravan park, which was not easy due to the big desert Finke bike race on this weekend. We may stay around to see some of the action.
