We decided to bypass Gladstone, the next major town along the coast. By most reports (except the tourist brochure) it is a mostly industrial city with not much of interest. We continued onto the twin coastal towns of Agnes Water and 1770 (also known as ‘Town of 1770’ or ‘Seventeen Seventy’ - it has a bit of an identity crisis!) Agnes Water is the northernmost surf beach in Queensland. We had lunch there, and then continued out to the headland behind 1770. We walked to a lighthouse and a great view up and down the coast. There is no town as such in 1770, but some beautiful houses with great views, lovely beaches and apparently good fishing. We stayed on the beachfront, in the last available campsite. Being school holidays it is pretty busy here, with lots of families. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset, while barbequing dinner.
