Rockhamption: Rob’s Birthday

September 28th, 2008

Japanese GardenWe considered going to Great Keppel Island as a special trip for Rob’s birthday, but the resort on the island has recently closed. Instead we started the day with a special cooked breakfast, before driving back to 'Rocky' to visit the Botanical Gardens which has a free zoo. We strolled around the park looking at some apes, birds, koalas and crocodiles at the zoo, then took in a relaxing walk through the Japanese Garden. Rob’s second treat for the day was lunch at the café in the gardens. Back to the city centre we were surprised to find it so very quiet. Not much was open as it was Sunday. We walked around the streets, where there were some nice old buildings, some of which lined the river. From Rockhampton we drove further south, and stayed at a busy but pleasant free camp spot near a river just outside of Gladstone.
