Cairns: Old Town

August 12th, 2008 : cairns-old-town

Rob and Olive at the PlaygroundWhile waiting for our fridge to be repaired, we thought we would take a look around Cairns town. We parked the van then walked along the picturesque esplanade. Unexpectedly though most of the waterfront is mud flats, but there were many birds playing in the mud.

There was a gorgeous plunge pool near town with lots of tourists sunbaking and swimming. It was rather a windy and overcast day today - so the water was not that appealing.

From the pool we embarked on 'Dad's Tours' a Heritage walk around the town centre to discover some great old buildings interspersed between newer tourist shops. We enjoyed some Korean food for lunch, before taking Olive to a fantastic free kids playground situated on the esplanade.

Luckily we still had TV at the caravan park to watch more Olympics in the evening.
