Port Douglas: Bird Habit

August 29th, 2008 : port-douglas-bird-habit

Feeding a WallabyIt was a clear blue sky day today, pity we did not have that yesterday for our snorkeling trip. We rode our bikes about 5km to the Rainforest Habitat, a high quality zoo mostly with tropical birds. There were birds all around us in a well designed natural setting. There was a koala and crocodile demonstration given by a Steve Irwin clone, but much more entertaining than the original. There was also an excellent continuous tour of all the areas which we joined for a while. It was just perfect for Olive, as she has had a fascination with birds since the start of this trip. She was also able to hand feed some ducks and kangaroos, though we had to protect her from the pesky emus. We finished the day with a stroll along the Port Douglas' Four Mile Beach, which is just 100m behind our caravan park.
