American River, Kangaroo Island: A Taste of Local Delicacies

February 19th, 2009 : american-river-kangaroo-island-a-taste-of-local-delicacies

Remarkable PhotoAfter a quick and unsuccessful search for more koalas in the morning, we packed up and continued our journey around KI. We ventured into Flinders Chase National Park and headed south to Cape de Couedic Lighthouse. We enjoyed a pleasant winding walk down the hill to Admiral’s Arch, an interesting arched rock formation where many NZ fur seals laze around the rocks. A little along the road was Remarkable Rocks, which were a quite remarkable unusual shaped weathered rocks sitting exposed on a rocky point. We stopped for lunch at the Visitors Centre café, as we are all out of supplies and it’s a bit too cold anyway for outdoor eating. On the way back to our host house, we called in at a woodwork gallery, a sheep dairy for a tour of the cheese making and sheep milking, and a local honey shop. We detoured through the main town of Kingscote, to meet up for dinner with our host Lisa. Before our pizza meal we checked out the old town historical area, the pelicans, and of course the playground.
