It blew a gale all night – being right on the beach was not an advantage for that. Thankfully we are not camping in a tent. Today was a big day of driving, 300 km. We stopped at Kingston to see the mostly metal Cape Jaffa lighthouse, which had been moved from Cape Jaffa to Kingston. As we left town we stopped for the obligatory photo of the ‘big lobster’. We stopped in the Cooroong National Park, a long strip of mostly sand dunes with an inner estuary, for a short walk to Chinaman’s Well, a stopping point for the Chinese gold seekers on their way from Adelaide to the Victorian goldfields. A little further on, we stopped for lunch next to Salt Creek with a few black swans. The road continued along next to the large freshwater lake of the Cooroong, home to heaps of birdlife. We had a break at Meningie, then again at the Bleasdale Winery at Langhorne – thanks for the tip from a fellow traveler – pour your own tastings! The day finally finished at a gorgeous town of Strathalbyn.
