Port Victoria, Yorke Peninsula: Dirty Harry

February 1st, 2009 : port-victoria-yorke-peninsula-dirty-harry

Rob HikingWe drove back to Stenhouse Bay, the entry point to the Innes National Park, which is also the start of a walking trail to Inneston, a small holiday village which was once the mine worker's cottages. We left Olive with Sharon and enjoyed the childless walk along a historic old rail trail, scattered with Gypsum which was mined here. We met Sharon at the other end of the walk - who had enjoyed some quality time with her niece.

From here we headed back north to Minlaton for a traditional Sunday fry-up for lunch. We stopped next to a fauna park with emus and kangaroos, and also a historic monoplane piloted by the flying ace Harry Butler. For the first time on the trip we made the mistake of locking the keys in the car… so we had to send the smallest of our party climbing through the back door of the van and with instructions into the front seat to get the keys out of the ignition and hand them out the small gap in the window. Lucky for us Olive saved the day!!

Our final destination was the quaint coastal town of Port Victoria which lies on the west coast of the Yorke Peninsula. Arriving in the early afternoon left us time to scrub ourselves and our clothes from the last couple of dirty days at Innes NP.
