Nimbin: Swimming in Circles

October 29th, 2008 : nimbin-swimming-in-circles

Nimbin Main StreetWe walked around the main street of Nimbin, which comprises a very colourful streetscape of shops and offices. It is a unique small town with a very alternative lifestyle and cultural distinction. There was hemp clothing for sale, organic food shops, the Nimbin Hemp Embassy and the eclectic Nimbin Museum where we were offered cookies and marijuana. We also visited the Rainbow Power Company, which was just next door to our caravan park. At first sight it seemed like just an ordinary solar energy shop, but after looking around we were quite enlightened and impressed with the waterless toilet and solar cooking systems. We went back to our camp for an afternoon swim, and soaked up a few solar rays for ourselves. It has been pretty sunny and hot while we have been here, so it seems like a good place to base a solar energy company.
