Millaa Millaa: Tableland Tour

September 4th, 2008 : millaa-millaa-tableland-tour

Cows Coming In for MilkingToday was a big touring day around the area. We started the day with a detour to Hasties Swamp to see some birds. We then back tracked to Tolga to check out a woodwork shop and to buy some chilli and lime flavoured peanuts from the Nut World. Next we went through the town of Atherton and drove to the top of their lookout, Halloran Hill for a great view across the surrounding valleys. At Gallo cheese and chocolate factory we watched the cows come in for milking, and enjoyed some tastings. We passed Yungaburra again for platypus viewing, and shopping, before heading towards Malanda for another cheese shop and lunch stop. For the afternoon, we toured the Nerada Tea farm and factory, the largest tea plantation in Australia, learning a lot about tea production. Finally exhausted, we finished the day at Millaa Millaa, where we camped among the rainforest trees in a cool though damp spot.
