Wallaman Falls: Foggy Ascent

September 8th, 2008 : wallaman-falls-foggy-ascent

Breakfast by the FallsWe carried our breakfast into Paronella Park and sat on the mossy seats to eat with a marvelous waterfall backdrop, with hardly a soul about. Very peacefull.

After leaving here we dropped into Kurramine Beach, which had been recommended by Cousin Tim back in Townsville. Although the quiet beachside caravan park looked relaxing, it was not beach weather - yes raining again-  so we decided to move on to our next destination, Wallaman Falls – to see the tallest waterfall in Australia!

Campsite WhiteoutThis waterfall was closed on our first attempt to visit on our way north of Townsville over a month ago, and we have made the effort to return. It was a pity as the weather was much better then. We stopped for a pie as we passed through Cardwell, apparently an institution for anyone travelling along this route, again something recommended by Tim.

After getting supplies in Ingham, we drove the 50 km up to Wallaman Falls. It was a tiring drive; a long, narrow and windy road up the mountain through thick fog, a little eerie at times. It was too foggy to see the falls this afternoon, so we will wait until tomorrow for hopefully better weather.
