Tidal Beach, Wilsons Promontory: Squeaky Clean

December 11th, 2008 : tidal-beach-wilsons-promontory-squeaky-clean

Wilsons PromWe headed off early for the long drive to Wilson’s Promontory. We stopped for a coffee break at a small town along the way, then again at Foster, arriving just in time for a school band playing in the park. We also stopped when we spotted an Echidna walking across the road in front of us – another Australian animal experience for Olive. We reached ‘The Prom’ just before lunch. We had a quick look at Whisky Bay before reaching Tidal River campground. We picked a camp spot next to the shelter as rain is forecast for the next couple of days. It was a rare sunny day and we wanted to make the most of this exceptionally picturesque place, so we hiked across the headland to Squeaky Beach, named as the white sand squeaks as you walk in it. Olive is very happy to be back at the beach, though Clare was not so happy with the frigid cold water when she went for a refreshing dip. It looked so inviting after a long hike.
