Day 4: Skirting the Edge

We woke early after an early retirement last night. There were a few mozzies buzzing around in the morning. It started raining, so we thought our plans for the day may have to change. We packed, cleaned up, dropped into the toilet block as we passed to wash up in clean water, then dropped off the keys. Despite no hot water, a pit toilet and mosquito larvae in the water, we had had a wonderful time in our cabin with our own private beach and visiting wildlife.

We drove for 3-4 hours south to Port Arthur. It was raining most of the time, so we did not stop very much. We had a short stop at a berry farm, and stopped for some food supplies.

The rain gradually cleared up, and by the time we arrived at our destination it had stopped completely and the sun was coming out. We continued with our scheduled four hour hike to Cape Huay, in the Tasman National Park. We still took our wet weather gear as the weather can be unpredictable.

The hike started as Fortesque Bay, a beautiful large bay. There were a few hills to climb and valleys to cross. The track went on and on, but the final destination was beckoning. It was worth it - to see some spectacular huge vertical cliffs. It was a little scary as the path went close to some of the edges. It was a long slog back, and after yesterday's long hike we both were pretty fatigued.

Back to our car, we drove on to Port Arthur Caravan and Cabin Park. We checked into a luxury cabin (well, compared to the last couple of nights), a hot shower, some scallop risotto and another early night.
