Day 1 Thursday 28th June

Plane food – Flying Garuda airlines meant we had a different experience with food offerings. For breakfast we were offered fried rice or scrambled eggs. Each meal came with a croissant, cut up fruit and a drink. The kids had the same except instead of a sausage and tomato with the scrambled eggs, they had baked beans and potato. They even gave a us a baby meal which included farex (enough for a week!) chocolate custard, baby juice plus more.

On arrival at our villa, we were welcomed with a fruit platter of tropical fruits. They were wall familiar except for the 'snake fruit', so called becasue of its skin.

Our first restaurant meal in bali was at Lada Warung#; this place was recommended to us by our driver from the airport. It was a small casual eatery.  We ordered the basics since it was our first meal in Ubud, so we had fried rice and fried noodles along with spring rolls and satay chicken sticks.

The chicken sticks came with dipping sauce and an interesting salad, comprised of bean shoots, herbs and ??.

We also indulged in some fried banana, a nice light batter topped with some sugar syrup, plus some coconut ice-cream, more like a gelati, for dessert.

Bali Bintang beer. And it was a nice touch getting some nuts with it too.

# ‘Warung’ is a word for a casual local eating establishment. Usually cheaper than fancier international style places!
