Hi all,

We are currently in Hoi An, near the centre of Vietnam. In the next couple of days we will be crossing the DMZ (demilitarised zone), the old north/south border. This corresponds to the midway of our holiday too. Everything is going to plan so far.

This old town is excellent for shopping and is a very funky place (compared to the other places we have seen in Vietnam). We have both bought quite a few items of clothing, all custom made for between $10-20.

Today we hired a couple of old rickety bikes and rode to a relatively quiet beach about 5 km away. We are now coping with the traffic a little better, it is also less busy here. There is a festival for some reason starting tomorrow night, so we are going to hang around and check it out.

Cycling in Hoi An

The weather is hot and sticky, a little uncomfortable even for us Darwinites. I think we usually spend too long in airconditioning at home. Further north it should cool down a little.

Since we last wrote we have travelled north slightly inland to a place called Dalat. It was a lot cooler with beautiful countryside. We for a ride on the back of motorbikes to view it all. Then we moved on to the coast to Nha Trang, where we hung out at the beach.

We are still both healthy and safe. Thanks for everyone’s news.
