I woke to a wonderful view out my window, the rising sun lighting up the peaks of the distant mountains. What a great place to stay while volunteering in Nepal.

Rob in Nepal for Habitat for Humanity, helping to build a house for a local family in Dulikel.

At our building site I worked on the start of a retaining patio area. It may not have been part of the design, but we are trying to add a functional and more interesting element to the otherwise block house. The remaining time in the morning I spent in the mud pit, mixing the mud, straw and cow dung to make render for the walls – hot and hard work.

In the afternoon it was back to rendering the walls with the mud from the render pit. We finished all the inside walls and pretty much all of the outside that we could reach. The owners seem pretty happy with the job we have done so far.

We are very fortunate to have the help of Drov, a young guy assigned to our group to act as interpreter and to run around for us. He has been an exceptional help and is a nice guy too.

In the evening half of the team went off to the city for a formal sponsor dinner which I chose to give a miss (it was an hour drive each way), resting back at the hotel instead. I was able to use the time to eventually connect with Clare on Skype. It was great to see her happy face, she seems like she is coping very well without me.
