La Dolce Vita

Italians love their sweets, and with three kids travelling around Italy, we had plenty of opportunity to sample many of them. Nutella Along with the Italian’s obsession with bread is also an obsession with Nutella! I know they invented it, but they really do take it to the next level, being such a passionate lot. …

We finished our three weeks in Vietnam with a visit to the Halong Bay area. We stayed a couple of nights on Cat Ba Island, and the highlight was a day cruising around Lan Ha Bay (the less touristy area next to Halong Bay) with kayaking through caves, jumping off the boat and swimming to a beach, visiting a fish farm and monkey island, and a huge Vietnamese seafood lunch. The most spectacular way to get to Cat Ba Island, via a 4km cable car supported by pillars 215m high. No family holiday would be complete with a little history lesson. We visited the 1600-year-old ruins of the Champa Kingdom, a day trip from Hoi An. Described as a mini version of Angkor Wat, it would be much bigger if most of it was not destroyed by US bombing Hoi An is all about the lanterns, they are everywhere. The kids spent a couple of hours making their own, which are going to be great souvenirs and reminders of our time here. #thelanternlady #hoianlanterns Our little tunnel rat disappearing into one of the tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war in Vietnam. After this experience, plus a visit to the confronting War Remnants Museum in HCMC, I think he got the message that war is good for absolutely nothing! #givepeaceachance Getting acquainted with a snake. Some of us also tasted snake wine (not made from snakes, it's a local spirit with a preserved snake in the bottle). These are the bonus activities for the tourists while exploring the Meekong Delta region south of Saigon. Waiting for the train to come on Hanoi Train Street https://www.instagram.com/reel/CuKJIgqgxRH/ A great way to start our three week holiday in Vietnam was a motorbike food tour. The kids were amazing, trying food they would have turned up their noses to back home, including balut (egg embryo). Experiencing the traffic from the back of a motorbike was a bonus. #saigonadventures #motorcyclefoodtour #vietnamesefood
