Our World Top-10 List: Wow! Natural Vistas

[ more Top-10 Lists ]

This list is our own personal top ten based on what we have seen and experienced in our travels, mostly from our year-long trip around the world in 2005. This list comprises places that took our breath away when fist sighted, which we walked away saying ‘wow!’ …

1. Amalfi Coast, Italy

Amalfi Coast Italy

This is an absolutely unbelievable coastline of cliffs falling into the ocean with a splattering of houses and towns and tiny beaches.

2. Yosemite Valley, USA

yosemite falls

The Yosemite National park would have to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on earth.

3. Semuc Champey, Guatemala

Semuc Champey

The locals call this the eighth wonder of the world. The most beautiful steps of turquoise cascading rock pools, next to a raging river that flows underground through a sort of natural rock bridge. We also hiked for a half hour directly up the side of the hill to a lookout, for a birds eye view of this natural wonder.

4. Grand Canyon, USA

Grand Canyon View

The canyon view is breathtaking and cannot be described fully in words, nor captured adequately on film.

5. Lake Lungern, Switzerland

View of a lake in Switzerland

Driving from Lucerne to Hasliberg, we pulled over for a rest, only to have this view of Lake Lungern in front of us. Wow!

6. Great Australian Bight, SA, Australia

Australian Bight View

The flat nullarbor plain just stops and drops off into the sea along this southern coast of Australia. We found a special viewpoint of the Australian Bight, a view from below.

7. Bryce Canyon, USA

Bryce Canyon USA

It is an amazingly weird landscape, soft carved rock formed into canyons, valleys, and tall shapely statues.

8. 12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Australia

12 Apostles Victoria Australia

The drive along the Great Ocean Road is spectacular, the highlight is the 12 Apostles Victoria Australia.

9. Big Sur, California, USA

Bixby Creek Bridge Big Sur California

The spectacular Big Sur coast, on the Californian coast between San Francisco and LA. The best view is before Bixby Creek Bridge, also known as Bixby Canyon Bridge, one of the most photographed bridges in California.
