It was a hectic short time in San Francisco but made all worthwhile with our first-ever meeting with our nephew/cousin Romeo.

We had a night of both solid sleep and alert waking time, our bodies adjusting to the time difference. Olive continues to be fascinated with time differences around the world, this time getting a first-hand experience of it.

We planned to meet Alli and Reggie early and take Romeo off them while they do a job. Traffic caused us to be delayed, causing some frantic organising to pack up and check out while going to collect Romeo. We also had to collect the hire car, store our luggage in it, and park it for the day.

Everything was sorted by lunchtime. Clare and the kids got to know each other, playing in a park. When Rob returned from sorting out the car, we walked down to Fisherman’s Wharf. The buskers were impressive and kept us occupied for a while. We had the mandatory seafood chowder in a bread bowl for Rob and Clare, and bagels for the kids.

Musée Mécanique

We dropped into Musée Mécanique, a fun arcade full of vintage mechanical machines, though Olive, as usual, could not decide how to spend her quarters. Next to the arcade was a submarine docked at the pier.

From there we went to the other pier, avoiding the tourist shops and went straight to the sea lions, meeting Alli and Reggie there. Romeo had enjoyed having lots of attention from his Australian cousins but was glad to see his Mum.

Together we had an American style meal at Applebee’s. From there it was a long walk back to the cars, a brief panic as Allis car had been locked in the garage. We finally got on our way south towards Monterey, the final thing to do was to drop into the airport and collect the luggage we had left behind yesterday. Driving was a lot easier than we expected. Rob kept Clare in the right lane as we followed the others to Seaside and our next Airbnb, a house a few doors along from Alli, our home for the next week.
